Claire Eats an Eyeball
Like a true Hatton, Claire eats the eyeball out of the roast pig we had for my birthday party. I guess watching all those episodes of Bizarre Foods paid off. She and I watch the show and Claire is always interested in exotic foods. Our next adventure is to try Gusanos de Maguey when we visit Mexico in January.

Fun at the Beach
Here we are with the whole Washington State arm of the family at Oregon's Cannon Beach. A great time was had by all, especially the under 2 ft set.

Uh oh Gretchen! Now it looks like you'll need to get a congregation to make sure those people you married stay legal!

A beetle once bit my sister ... No realli! She was Karving her initials on the beetle with the sharpened ...

We were out at my parents' house last Friday for a Cycle Oregon Kickoff/sendoff. We ate a great dinner and drank plenty of wine. Sitting in the garden patio, we heard a fairly large animal moving around in the bushes. During the daytime, I would have chalked it up to a bird, but since it was at night it piqued our interest.
Turned out it was a big-ass BUG! This thing was at least the size of my thumb.
My sister, being the non-squeamish type, picked it up and brought it up to the porch for a closer look. Darned if the thing didn't squeal when she picked it up!
It was a little sluggish, but after biting Lindsay's palm, it took off flying around the front porch. We later found it on the back porch, looking a little worse for wear as the temperature dipped later at night.
I did a little research and found out that it was a California Prionus Beetle. Little bugger was probably lost and cold.
First Day of Daycare

I have reports back from the delivery crew that Charlie's first day at day care is under way. Gretchen dropped him off this morning and there was only a minor amount of tears and whimpering...and that was just mommy.
We will see tonight when we pick him up if the rest of the day went as smoothly as the morning. There is some concern that he's going to have a hard time taking a nap in a room with other kids. We have had to translate his sleeping pattern from a 10 am nap to a 12:30 pm nap in order to align it with the daycare schedule.
We'll also find out if he liked is Bento box of lunch.
Update: Charlie is having a great time. He is sleeping with the rest of the kids and has impressed everyone with his good humor! Whew! Glad that he's not a ball of wail.
