Banal Minutiae

This is a place for Grant, Gretchen, Claire and Charles to keep track of what's going on in our lives and keep our friends and family updated as well.

Give them some candy bars and you've got a geyser.

This has got to be one of the best ideas ever. I wonder if we could harness Claire for any household infrastructure?

Luddite Shmuddite

Gretchen and I were catching the last episode of Lenny Briscoe on Law & Order (via TiVo no less) and an advertisement for the Volkswagen Touareg came on. The advertisement was pure techno-porn, lingering lasciviously on the GPS navigation system, the four-point air suspension and... Oh yeah baby!... 350 HP of torque! Gretchen said, "Oooh!".

I accused her techno-lust, and she replied simply, "It's Touareg Lust".

Sicko!

Claire spiked a 104.8° fever yesterday and is staying home from daycare. It's been a long time since she has been this sick and it's no fun for anybody. The doctor said it's something that's going around but we can plan on at least 4 days of this, (AACK!).

Here she is wrapped up in her Dora the Explorer® blanket, consuming media!

Found Words

Just for fun (and my own edification) I am posting definition of new and interesting words I've found to my side-blog to the right. The first word is "Semiotics".

Bliss

Is there anything more beautiful than the girls you love?

Me fail English? That's unpossible!

Gretchen had a student a few semesters back who insisted that he could write without using verbs. While she doubted the veracity of his statement, it would now appear she was incorrect. From this article it would appear that a French fellow has published a book without using any verbs. From the article:

In a typical piece of prose, Mr Thaler writes: ". . . Those women there, probably mothers, bearers of ideas far too voluminous for their brains of modest capacity."

The book was panned. Apparently, you can't write well without verbs.

It is done...

We signed the papers yesterday for our new home purchase, so now we now own two houses (for the time being). I suppose we could use one as a summer home

The Bushiad

Found a great site for fans of Ancient Greek Tragedy, as well as those of us who are less than fond of our current leader.
In The Bushiad and The Idyossey George Bush, Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney, Condoleeza Rice, Paul Wolfowitz, Colin Powell and others in the Bush Court are the players in this modern epic, fostering conflict and warfare in concert with the corporate gods. Saddam Hussein of Iraq, Osama bin Laden, Kim Sung Il of North Korea, "Old" Europe, The United Nations, Canada and any that stand in their way or that can be used to further their ends are vulnerable. The Bushiad and The Idyossey demonstrate that when power-mad, testosterone-poisoned religious fanatics in league with greedy multinational corporations wield unlimited military might, all humanity is vulnerable.

Sushi Pants!

Claire wore her "Icky Baby" brand SUSHI PANTS to school today!

Grandma and Grandpa Hatton gave those to her and she thinks they are pretty cool.

About the name

Anyone who is a fan of Monty Python & the Holy Grail will know that Castle Anthrax has a terrible name, but is really a rather nice place. Somewhat like this webpage.

I couldn't come up with a name, so write me a comment and give me some suggestions!!

Claire's First Haircut

Claire had her first haircut on Saturday. I think it was harder on Mommy that it was on Claire. This picture belied her initial feelings about the whole thing, but she really had a ball.

Claire's Old Page

You can still get to Claire's old page here.

We're Moving

First things first.

We sold our old house and bought a new house just a couple of miles away. We're trading up from 1 bathroom to 3.5(!) bathrooms. The new place has lots of room, a view of Mount St. Helens and a horse pasture behind it.

I'll send out an email with all the particulars.

Welcome to our new(est) website

It's been a while since I posted to Claire's website, so I decided to re-vamp the whole thing and make it easier on myself. I'm now using Blogger to keep our site updated.

That means that I can do this from anywhere, at anytime. I promise to put more pictures of Claire up here as soon as I can.
